The fastback styling was now a model across the GM line of cars with the introduction of the Chevrolet Aerosedan. 61,855 were sold before Feb 1, proving it to be quite popular.

GENERAL: A heavier "American Eagle" grille with lower and wider horizontal bars differentiated the 1942 Chevrolet. A front bumper gravel shield was added. Parking lights were in the grille side moldings. A new hood extended back to the edge of the door. The cowl panel was eliminated. Headlights were flush-mounted in the front fenders. Bolt-on caps extended the fenders onto the doors. At the rear, the fenders and taillights were unchanged, but the license lamp and gravel shields were new designs.
CHEVROLET — MASTER DELUXE — SERIES BG — SIX: There was no nameplate on the sides of the Master DeLuxe hood. Seats, steering wheel and interior trim were plain. On Jan. 1. 1942 all bright metal trim – except for the bumpers and guards - was eliminated as part of the war effort. These "black out" models had trim parts painted in body color.
CHEVROLET - SPECIAL DELUXE - SERIES BH - SIX: This model featured better upholstery, more trim and more standard equipment. Extras included: a deluxe steering wheel with horn ring, chrome hood nameplates. and front door arm rests. The Cabriolet now had rear quarter windows. A new model was added - a fastback 2-door Fleetline called the "Aerosedan". As in the Fleetline Sportmaster sedan, it had three stainless steel trim strips on the sides of the fenders and fender caps. Like the Master DeLuxe Line, after Jan. 1, 1942, Special DeLuxes were delivered with painted, rather than plated, trim.
INNOVATIONS: Signal-seeking radio with station tuner introduced as an option. The Aerosedan introduced.

Special DeLuxe & Fleetline: Series BH - Serial numbers were in the same locations as on Master DeLuxe. Starting: BH-1001. Ending: BH-27530. Engine numbers were the same as on Master DeLuxe.

All US automobile production halted Feb. 1, 1942. The last pre-war Chevrolet was built on January 30, 1942. All Chevrolet factories except Saginaw Service Mfg. plant converted for war production.

The 1942 Chevrolet Cabriolet received roll down rear quarter windows. It was still a high-price item, with a base price of $1,080. In the shortened year, 1,182 were delivered.
The Chevrolet Station Wagon was still the highest priced model in 1942, with a list price of $1,095. Only 1,057 were produced.
The Sportmaster replaced the Fleetline nameplate as it and the Aerosedan were now a part of a Fleetline line, though badged as Special DeLuxes. 14,530 were sold.
The 4-door Special DeLuxe Sport Sedan was always a strong seller. 31,441 were produced.
The 1942 Special Deluxe 2-door Town Sedan seemed to always top the sales charts - and it almost did again with 39,421 - knocked off by another 2-door - the Aerosedan's 61,855.
The 1942 Special DeLuxe 5-passenger Coupe sold well with 22,187 delivered.
The Special DeLuxe Business Coupe barely topped the Convertible sales with only 1,716 produced, even with its $815 base price.
The Master DeLuxe line was the low price leaders, and the 1942 4-door Sport Sedan was no exception at $840, resulting in 14,093 delivered.
The 1942 2-door Master DeLuxe Town Sedan surprised all with the #2 in sales at 41,872.
The 1942 2-door Master DeLuxe Coupe was always a strong seller with 17,442 produced.
The 1942 2-door Master DeLuxe Business Coupe sales slowed to 8,089, likely due to its 2-passenger capacity.
