Information about this item:

1947 Mercury - General

Styling changes were slight this year. The grille still had thin, vertical bars, however, the border around the grille was chrome-plated, and there was also new trunk lid trim. "Mercury" in block  letters ran horizontally at the top center of the grille followed by "Eight" vertically in block letters running down its center. Both were outlined in black. The Mercury name was also placed on the side of the hood. Different hub caps were used. More chrome was used on the interior, and the dash dial faces were redesigned. The convertible and station wagon came with leather upholstery.

1947 Mercury Eight production totaled 85,378.

1947 Mercury Eight - SERIES 79M

The Mercury Eight's parking lights were still rectangular units placed high on the fenders inboard of the headlights. Once again, the running boards were completely concealed under flared door bottoms. The instrument panel continued to feature two identical circles for speedometer and clock with the gauges to the left of the speedometer, a glove compartment to the right of the clock, and a large radio speaker cover in the center.

Standard equipment included: plastic steering wheel with medallion including full horn ring, cigarette lighter, electric clock, oversized, locking glove compartment, twin horns, two sun visors, arm rests on each front door, dual windshield wipers, foot control for headlights with beam indicator on instrument panel, two ashtrays in the rear compartment of the Sedan Coupe and one in the Town Sedan.

Also included were: friction-lock vent windows, dimming control for instrument lights, special luggage compartment light, twin tail and stop lights (except in the station wagon), and spare wheel and tire in luggage compartment.

The 1947 Mercury convertible was still popular and was the style setter for the line. Over 10,000 were sold this year - a 4,000 unit increase over the previous year.

The 2-door Sedan Coupe was very popular for Mercury in 1947 with over 29,000.

The 1947 Mercury 2-door Sedan was a solid car; however, production records show only 34 sold, which seems unlikely.

The 1947 Mercury station wagon was becoming increasingly popular, and sales increased by one-third to 3,558.
