1947 Olds Custom Cruiser - Ninety Series

Three body styles were again used in the top of the line Oldsmobile series. This was the final year the Ninety-Eight used a styling package which could be directly traced to the 1941 models. All Ninety-Eights were powered by the straight-eight motor. Standard Ninety-Eight equipment included the same items as the Special Series plus a solenoid starter system. Upholstery was done in either custom broadcloth or leather. Standard tire size was 7.00 x 15 inches.

Custom Cruiser Series Engine and Transmission

Engine: Fire-Power Eight-cylinder

  • Displacement: 257 cu. in.Bore and stroke: 3-1/4" x 3-7/8"
  • Cast iron block. Electro-hardened aluminum pistons. I-beam construction connecting rods. Six main bearings.
  • L-head. Solid valve lifters
  • Two-barrel downdraft carburetion. Automatic choke with fast idle system.
  • Compression ratio: 6.5:1
  • Brake horsepower: 110 @ 3600 RPM

Transmissions:
  • Three-speed manual with column shifter was standard.
  • Fully automatic HydraMatic transmission was optional for $135 extra.
