1947 Olds Special - 60 Series

More models were offered in the low-priced Special series than in the other two series offered by Oldsmobile in 1947. This model year saw the return of the eight cylinder engine to the Special series and there were 66 and 68 versions of each body style offered. Standard equipment included safety glass, spare wheel and tire, dual horns, vacuum booster pump and cigarette lighter. The standard interior fabric was tan mixture cloth. Standard tire size was 6.00 x 16 inches.

Fire-Power Six-cylinder

Displacement: 238 cu. in
Bore and stroke: 3-1/2" x 4-1/8"
Cast iron block. Electro-hardened aluminum pistons. Full pressure lubrication. Five main bearings.
L-head. Solid valve lifters
Carburetion: One-barrel carburetor fitted with automatic choke and fast idle system.
Compression ratio: 6.5:1
Brake horsepower: 100 @ 3400 RPM

Fire-Power Eight-cylinder

Displacement: 257 cu. in.
Bore and stroke: 3-1/4" x 3-7/8"
Cast iron block. Electro-hardened aluminum pistons. I-beam construction connecting rods. Six main bearings.
L-head. Solid valve lifters
Two-barrel downdraft carburetion. Automatic choke with fast idle system.
Compression ratio: 6.5:1Brake horsepower: 110 @ 3600 RPM

Transmissions:

Three-speed manual with column shifter was standard.
Fully automatic HydraMatic transmission was optional for $135 extra.
