1966 Ford Fairlane Ads

Ford total sales dropped by about 176 thousand units in 1966 (the big hit was in Falcon),  but not in the new Fairlane line, which boasted a new-sized car aimed directly at the competition from Chevrolet and Plymouth.  Where the wheelbase was the same as 1965, the width was up almost 2", allowing the fitment of Ford's FE big block for the first time.

The new styling was also much more in tune with the times, with smoother lines and a more aggressive fascia. The Fairlane 500XL/GT/GTA was highly advertised, aimed directly at the youth market, resulting in over 65 thousand in first-year sales in those models alone. Fairlane sold 377,792 units in 1966, a 113,840 increase.
