The previous year's Galaxie (1965) had been part of the steady increase in Ford large cars since 1962, jumping by a substantial amount each year. 1966 was no exception, with the sales topping a million for the first time since 1959, when only large cars were offered. At 1,040,930, sales of the 1966 large car increased by 62,411 over 1965 - which had been a very strong year. Some of this increase can be attributed to an ongoing campaign about Ford's quiet interior cabin.
