1970 Cougar Ads

The clean grille of the 1969 Cougar was replaced by a center hood extension and electric shaver style insert reminiscent of the 1967-68 models. The interior now featured high-back bucket seats. The XR-7 model had distinctive wheel covers and race style mirrors among other differences. An "Eliminator" model was the performance offering that featured a hood scoop, and rear spoiler as cues.

Engines went from 302 to 429 V8s, with even a Boss 302 available in the Eliminator, with horsepower from 250 to 375.

Production totaled 72,343.

The Cougar Eliminator was Mercury's hot ticket in the 1970 Pony Car wars.
