1965 Mercury Large Car Ads |
|||||
1965 was a banner year for Mercury large cars, which, in fact outsold the mid-sized car for the first time. There were three major reasons for this; a major restyle that came off quite well, a marketing campaign that sold the car as a low-priced Lincoln, not a high-priced Ford, and the Car Life Magazine's Award for Excellence. The total units sold for 1965 was an astounding 181,701 versus '64s 109,495, pushing Mercury's total sales to 346,753 - a number not seen before in the decade. |
