1973 Pontiac Grand Prix Ads

Pontiac's personal luxury/sport vehicle scored new heights in sales this year, but then again, so did most of the industry as this year marked a new high water mark in domestic units produced reached the 11,000,000-unit level.

The Grand Prix lost three inches in wheelbase, but gained it all back in overall length with the new, massive, energy-absorbing front bumper. Also new this year were high-back, "horse collar" bucket seats. At the rear, the backlight received a prominent center crease, The b-pillar/sail-panel received a window, the tail lights moved up from the bumper and into the tail panel on either side of the boat tail center "prow." The rear bumper itself was beefed up to act as a real bumper was required to act.

The SJ model still featured the larger 455 cubic inch engine as a standard item. Early sales material indicated that the new 455 Super Duty engine would also be offered up for the Grand Prix line. Alas, the SD option would only be sold in the Firebird Formula and Trans Am.

Grand Prix production total: 133,150
Grand Prix SJ production total; 20,749
Grand Prix total: 153,899

Pontiac production total: 919,872
