1966 Street Hemi Brochure

While the 426 "Elephant" Hemi had been in the hands of the professional racer since 1964, the general public had no access to the engine.

In response to the demand f the sanctioning bodies that the motor be available to the public as well as racers, Chrysler Corp. released a "Street Hemi" version in 1966. The major changes were a more stretable camshaft and in-line dual 4-barrel carbs rather than the short ram single or dual carb manifolds used on the race motors (but those were now available across the counter).

That said, it the Hemi was a legend before, it was now reality - and an nightmare for other manufacturers.

This is Plymouth's version of thebrochure announcing availability for 1966
