The 1963 Cadillac was essentially similar to the previous year. The hoods and deck lid were redesigned, with the front fenders projected 4.625" further forward than 1962. The tailfins were trimmed down to provide a lower profile, and body-side sculpturing was eliminated. The grille was taller and incorporated outer extensions that swept below the flush-fender dual headlamps, and smaller circular front parking lamps were mounted in those extensions. The engine was all new, using more modern casting and engineering—a first since the V8's introduction in 1949, though the displacement at 390 CID and output remained the same at 325 hp. Production remained almost equal to 1962 at 163,174, up slightly from 1962's 160,840.
