1961 Oldsmobile Starfire Ads |
|||||
Oldsmobile enhanced its top of the line models with the Starfire - a late-year addition, not available until January 1, 1961. It was only available as a convertible. It was delivered with a slightly more powerful version of the 394 CID V8, using higher compression and a more aggressive camshaft than other 1961 88 and 98s. Standard equipment included all items from the Super Eighty-Eight plus brushed aluminum side panels, console, tachometer, power seats and a low restriction dual exhaust system. The Starfire's upholstery was done in leather. All other options available in the 98 convertible were available in the Starfire. 1961 Production totaled 7,800. It had been capped at 7,500, but 300 additional units were produced to fill back orders for the car. There were so many requests that all other orders were filled with the 1962 version.
