Little was changed on the 1940 Mercury 8. Sealed beam headlamps and minor trim adjustments are all that can be used to tell a '39 from a '40. The 1940 model has the words "Mercury Eight" in an emblem that ran from front to rear alongside the top side of the hood on both sides. It is chrome block wording atop a double red bar. The big news was the sales success of the car, with over 133,000 units sold!
