1959 OUS Pontiac Ads

Ads from Outside the United States appeared in magazines from various countries around the world. The most common countries in which to find these ads are Canada and Australia.

OUS ads are usually printed in the dominate language of the country in which they appear. Canadian ads can be found in two versions, English and French, with the French variants most commonly found in the Eastern Provinces.

1959 was the year of the Wide-Track Pontiac, unless you lived in Canada. Due to extremely restrictive and prohibitive tariff laws regarding trade between the U.S. and Canada, the possibility of importing automotive parts for assembly of unique American-featured cars was not an option. As a result, locally sourced, Canadian Chevrolet parts were used to assemble Canadian Pontiacs. Since Chevrolets built in Oshawa did not feature a "wide track," Pontiacs made in Oshawa also did not feature a "wide track."

Series designations were changed as the Pathfinder was dropped this year. At the top of the lineup was the Parisienne, corresponding with the American Bonneville, next was the
Laurentian (Star Chief), and the base Strato-Chief (Catalina). All were built in the 119" B-body wheelbase chassis.

Factory-installed air-conditioning was a first time offering this year.

Canadian domestic and export production total: 57,129 (calendar year)
