1965 Plymouth Full-Sized Car Ads

The Fury finally moved upstream in wheeelbase and overall size to compete with its rivals Ford and Chevy for 1965. Previously, it sat on the fame chassis as the Belvedere and Satellite and tried to compete based upon trim and options. When GM released its "A-Body" cars on a 115" wheelbase, and moved up to 119" wheelbase for their full-size cars, the die was cast.

No longer could Fury pass itself off as a full size car, when it fell at the top of the mid-size field. Thus, in 1965 a new chassis was developed on 119" wheelbase that placed Fury in direct competition  with Ford and Chevrolet.

As such the new Fury sold well, delivering 329,950 units and pushing Plymouth to 721,234 units total, almost 173,000 units more than 1964, which of itself, had been a strong year.
