1955 Studebaker Coupe and Speedster Ads

For 1955, Studebaker two-doors were offered as a hardtop and coupe. They could be had in 6 cylinder "Champion" form, as a V8 "Commander" or in upscale V8 "President" and "Speedster" trim.

The early year V8 cars utilized an extremely short stroke 224 CID version with a bore and stroke of 3.5625" x 2.8125" which produced 140 HP with a 2-barrel and 160 HP with a 4-barrel carburetor.  Mid-year, a 259 CID upgrade was made available with the same 3.5625" bore but a more reasonable 3.25" stroke  for 185 HP with a 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust (standard in the Speedster and President).

The Lowey designed Coupe, introduced in 1953, was considered a great styling exercise and was quite popular. Studebaker marketed it as a "Sports Car", and its low slung body did handle quite well.

For 1955, Coupe production was 34,621 units: Champion Six -10,701; Commanders V8 - 14,910; and President/Speedsters - 9,010.

The Speedster was a true sports coupe with performance and handling to match its looks
