In 1958, the Volvo PV544 was phased in alongside the PV 444. Subtle differences from the PV444 included the introduction of a curved one-piece windshield to replace the two panes of flat glass, larger taillights, and a ribbon-type speedometer. The PV444's 3-speed manual transmission was replaced by a 4-speed unit in the 544. Production for the years 1958-1960 was 99,495 units.
