The Starfire and Jetstar I both received the new 425 Gen 2 V8 in its highest outpt configuration 370 HP, a huge gain over the previous 394's 345. Best, the new motor liked to rev and the new T-400 auto trans and optional 4-speed tranny were well suited to the engine. So equipped, the Jetstar I won the accelleration trials over all comers, including the new Pontiac 2+2 428.
