The "Round Body," third generation A-body is unleashed. Wheelbase shrunk by 3" to 112". The headlight arrangement returned to a horizontal configuration, and the front bumper was given a double-loop with a prominent central beak to more closely align its look with the full-size Pontiacs and second-year Firebirds. The windshield wipers found a new home tucked neatly behind and below the trailing edge of the hood. Engine displacement for the small V8 was increased to 350 c.i. The 4-bbl Sprint option was rated at 320 hp., a mere 15 ponies behind last year's GTO's base 400 c.i. engine.
