For 1930, wheelbases for the Standard Eight models were increased an inch to fit the redesigned Standard I-8 water pump, now with dual fan belts. The motor thermostat was eliminated, with thermostatically controlled radiator shutters taking over temperature control completely. Detroit Lubricator carburetors were fitted in lieu of the older Packard units. Parking lamps were now fender mounted, and headlamps exchanged their former parabolic look for one resembling half a cantaloupe. Big news was the fitment of a 4-speed transmission, replacing the 3-speed unit. Non-shatter laminated glass was in all windows. The Speedster was again available. It used a highly modified Standard Eight LWB chassis of 134.5 inches into which was stuffed a modified DeLuxe eight engine making 145 HP. Production for 1930 was surprisingly strong with 28,262 Standard Eights, 113 Speedsters, 6,200 Custom Eights and 1,789 DeLuxe Eights. Obviously, the lower-priced Standard Eights were carrying the Packard line - all the way to 36,364 units.
