Seen at the Madness in Main Street Car Show in Martinez, CA

No Limits staff were in attendance (and showing off our car) at this local car show (full disclosure – we live in Martinez) when we spied this super clean and original 1968 442.

This 1968 442 was originally purchased new at a local Oldsmobile dealer in March 1968 by Tony & June Cunha of Martinez. The car was passed on to their son Mark in the early '90s. Mark and his wife Linda (who both grew up and lived in Martinez) had the car until a few years ago when they passed it on to their daughter Robin and her husband Justin Yelinek. The amazing thing about this 442 is that it has been in Martinez for virtually its entire life. Tony and his son Mark and their families all lived in Martinez and attended the same schools. Robin remembers that her grandmother, June Cunha, used to haul  hay for her horses in the trunk. Only recently, after her marriage, did Robin take the car to her home in Amador County. The terrible "Butte" fire in Amador County prompted Robin to bring the 442 back to her father’s care.

This 1968 Saffron Yellow Holiday Coupe 442 is equipped with the original 400 cu.in. 350 HP engine and TH400 switch pitch automatic transmission. The rear is the stock 442 rear with factory sway bar and a set of 3.08 gears. The interior is factory stock black with a floor shifter and console.

No Limits talked at length with Mark Cunha about the history of this car. In 1992-93, Mark “blew it apart” for a complete refresh. He removed the engine and transmission as well as the interior and fenders. The body shell and fenders were sent to a local body shop to make it super straight and for a repaint in the factory original Saffron Yellow. Mark rebuilt the 400 cu.in. motor and transmission as well as re-assembling the car. The interior was in such great shape that it could be cleaned and re-installed save for the driver’s seat. This had some wear and a small tear so it was re-upholstered in original material and pattern. Even the dash was pristine with the original factory pin stripes around the underside.

The car has a set of original American Mag Torque Thrust wheels—with the factory wheels stored carefully away. The bumper chrome and exhaust trumpets are perfect and this car looks like the day Tony bought it.

Those are the original “black plate” license plates on the car that were issued in 1968 when new. Mark and his family lived very close to our staff in Martinez and knew a lot of neighbors. We chatted about them and all the cars that have passed through our hands. Of all these cars, this 1968 442 is truly an “all in the family” car.

This sign says it all -- this is a family car

Check out that interior -- all original dowen to the pinstripe on the dash

The chrome and trumpets are like new. And check out those original California "black plates"

A nice set of American Mags sets off this 442 perfectly
