1966 Ford Fairlane 427 Test
Royal Pontiac 1968 Le Mans HO 350 Royal Hop Up

We know that Royal was the center of GTO and Big Pontiac hop up parts and tuning since the early 60s, but did you know that they applied the same science to the 326 and 350 V8s? This article covers what they did for the little guy - after all - it was basically the same old Poncho V8. Check out this article and some of the other Royal hot shots from BITD!

1968 Holman Moody Omega Test
1968 Holman Moody Omega Road Test

This car is considered one of the rarest sports cars of the late 60s. Why? well because even though it was a production piece, the price turned people off. Let's face it, $8,000 back in 1968 was big coin! Regardless, the boys at Holman Moody knew how to make a car perform - as they had earlier with their famous Falcon Challenger and their NASCAR stockers so check out this test!

1968 Plymouth GTX Ads
1968 Plymouth GTX Ad: "GTX. That's short for Adios!"

In 1968 the Plymouth Road Runner was getting all the ink, but the big sister, GTX, was quietly selling almost 19 thousand units. When you combine the two and the Road Runners's sales at well over 44 thousand - the Plymouth performance B-Body outsold the famous 1968 SS396 by a good margin. 1969 Ford fairlane Cobra Test   1969 Ford Fairlane Cobra Road Test

We usually connect the brand "Cobra" with either early Shelby sports cars or 1993 - 2014 Mustangs. But what few may know is that Shelby sold the Cobra name to Ford after the 1966 year - thereafter Ford used "Cobra" to denote various performance products, "Cobra Jet" being one of them. However, Ford also used the name and logo on its Road Runner knock off Fairlane in 1969. Check out this little known car and its heavy performance here!

1970 Olds W-Machines Brochure
1970 Oldsmobile "W-Machines" Brochure

By 1970 all the manufacturers were into the "supercar" thing, and Oldsmobile was no slouch - offering up not only three distinct models with a performance flair - Rallye 350, W-31 Cutlass and the W-30 442 and its variants. But to get the masses psyched up, they published this neat brochure - now sought after by Olds performance car collectors. After all who can forget the famous Dr. Oldsmobile and his sidekicks and the stuff they told us about - like "Elephant Engine Ernie".

1972 Corvette LT1 Test 1972 Chevrolet Corvette LT-1 Road Test

As we all know, performance was on the downturn by 1972, but Corvette was not going down without a fight. The 1972 LT-1 Stingray was a good example of how the fiberglass sports car made such a good rep that it has survived to this day. Recognize that the LT-1 was not the 350 HP runner that had been around since Chevrolet went to the 350 small block, nor was it even the old 340-350 HP 327, but the '72 model still carried the flag proudly and with reason!
