This 1964 Ford is a top of the line Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe

1964 Ford Fairlane

Samantha and Mark Warfel call their 1964 Ford Fairlane Sports Coupe the Backwoods Hot Rod.
There is nothing backwoods about this beautiful classic restoration of a cool car.

Fairlane's Ford small block

That's the original 260 V8 in there-- its been refreshed and
had some "sparkle" added.

Fairlane's Upgraded interior

Ford made some really nice looking interiors back then.
A lot of detail work went into this interior.

When looking for potential featured cars, No Limits tries to find examples of brands and models that are not seen at every show or get together. One such car that caught our eye is Samantha & Mark Warfel’s 1964 Ford Fairlane.

Among 1964 cars, the Ford Fairlane often gets lost in the shuffle of the first Mustang, the initial GTO, Chevelles and 442’s as well as overshadowed by the infamous Ford Fairlane 427 Thunderbolt drag cars. The 1964 Ford Fairlane was the third year of the “mid-sized” Fairlane introduced by Ford in 1962. The Fairlane’s base V8 engine in 1962 was the 221 cu.in. “thin wall casting” V8 that would ultimately grow into the 289/302/351 Windsor and Mustang 5.0 of the '80s and '90s.

Samantha’s 1964 Ford Fairlane is the top of the line Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe (hardtop) edition with the base 260 cu.in. V8. Samantha’s Fairlane was found five years ago and given to her by her father as a senior high school project. As you might have guessed, Samantha is a car person and she and her father can “spin wrenches” with the best of them. It took four years of work to completely restore the Fairlane. Aside from the gorgeous paint, chrome goodies under the hood and sharp mag wheels, the resto went for the stock look.

The body was fully straightened and all dents removed and covered in luscious dark blue by Mark Temple, with graphics added by Rory Pentecost. The bumpers and bright work were rechromed by The Bumper Shop, and the stock 260 was rebuilt by Mark Warfel. The 260 did receive upgrades to the carb, distributor and alternator along with a liberal dose of chrome trim. That engine bay is a sparkling site.

Concord Auto Upholstery did the interior in all stock seat covers and trim. The stock dash and instruments were updated with a three-gauge panel and tach hung discreetly under the dash. The stock Ford C4 automatic transmission uses the stock column shifter. A stock center console finishes off the interior.

Samantha and her father did a lot of the pre-paint and final assembly of the car. Samantha told me that to get the interior Fairlane Sport Coupe door panel emblems right (the part of the door panel where the emblems go is metal) she had to paint the panel and then with her fingernails carefully scrape out the indentations to affix the emblems. That shows true car person fortitude.

This 1964 Ford Fairlane Sports Coupe is a great example of an often overlooked model that truly shows off the work of the owners.

Help Us Grow Our Collections - Donate NOW!

Do you know how big our collection is? If it were in paper, stacked floor to ceiling, it would fill a 10'x10'x10' room to the top! The Automotive History Preservation Society needs your support to keep collecting and restoring these materials – our goal is ten 10x10 rooms!

The Society operates on the good graces of donations - and we grow in relation to the monies we receive. None of the donations pay for any staff – they are volunteers.

We use the gifts for our high-end web services, scanning services, and the publication and e-mailing of this No Limits e-magazine. We have educational projects with high schools and colleges that need your financial help – this is how we work to “preserve the past for the future”.

Anyone who donates $25.00 or more automatically becomes a member of the Society. You can donate more - and we'll gladly say “thank you” with some neat gifts. Click HERE to see them!

So if you like what we are doing - please support us! Please donate - and join the people who recognize the value of preserving our automotive history. If you count yourself as an auto enthusiast, membership in the AHPS is the best dollar for dollar investment you will find.
