1967 Camaro SS/RS

The "Midnight Special" - Gerry and Mitzi Bailey's 1967 Camaro RS/SS

by Tweed Vorhees, Contributing Editor

Among all the glittering rods and customs at the Piston Powered show, this Tuxedo Black with red interior 1967 Camaro RS/SS was a stand out. The car was totally stock and was restored to perfection. We talked with the owner, Gerry Bailey about the car to learn the story behind this beautiful F-body.

Gerry and his wife Mitzi have owned the Camaro for 10 years. They found the car in southern Virginia and it was a very sound running car with a good body and mechanicals.  It was unique in that it was a true RS/SS with the 295 HP L48 350 cu.in. package but equipped with a very rare Borg-Warner T-16 HD 3-speed transmission. According to Gerry, there were only 681  1967 Camaros equipped with this transmission. It was only used behind the higher horse powered small blocks.
